Rangers AFC celebrates the club's centenary in 2010 as the oldest, established (still existing) football / soccer club in Canterbury, New Zealand. Our ground, Eric Adam Park (formerly known as Rangers Park) hosts a senior men's pre-season tournament, Rangers Tournament for the top clubs in Canterbury. Our men's first team won the Southern League on many occasions, appeared in the National League for 2 seasons and in 1993 reached the final of the Chatham Cup, New Zealand's national knock-out competition. Our men's first team recently played in the Mainland Premier League, which is immediately below (the franchise-based) National League level, our club fed into the Canterbury United franchise. We are proud of our New Zealand representatives and many Canterbury or Federation representative players. Our women's first team played in Canterbury Women's Premier Division which is the region's top grade - there is no club-based women's National League - and were Canterbury champions many times in the 1970s and 80s. Much of our administration is carried out by Linfield Sports. This website replaces our old: geocities.com/rangersafc/ site. In late 2007, Rangers AFC and New Brighton AFC merged to form Coastal Spirit FC. Rangers AFC Inc. continues to exist, holding the assets of Rangers AFC.

Obituary: Ric Fitzpatrick
20 July 2010
Ric Fitzpatrick, Rangers AFC Life Member, died at Kate Sheppard Hospital on 19 July 2010. A service to celebrate Ric's life will be held in the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 17 Winchester Street, Lyttelton, on Friday 23 July 2010, at 11.00 am. In 1971, Ric became interested in the Rangers AFC junior section when his son started playing for the club. Ric was Junior Secretary from 1973 to 1980 and served on the senior management committee during the 1980s. Among his many activities for the club, he ran the 5-a-side tournament during the 1990s and into the new century. Ric also served as bar manager for many years and could always be relied upon for a quick comment or joke when you arrived at the club's bar.
